Warranty
Two years on the board. One year on the pump. Ninety days on everything else in the box. Manufacturing defects only — but if it's our fault, we'll fix it.
This page is the plain-English version. The full legal terms live in Section 10 of our Terms of Service.
At a Glance
| What | How long | Starting from |
|---|---|---|
| Paddleboard or kayak | 2 years | Date of delivery |
| Hand pump (manual or electric) | 1 year | Date of delivery |
| Paddle, leash, backpack, fin, repair kit | 90 days | Date of delivery |
The warranty applies to the original purchaser only and to boards bought directly from dolphinkayak.ca. We can't honour warranty on a board bought used through Marketplace, Kijiji, or a friend — sorry, that's where the line has to sit.
What We Cover
If something fails because of how it was made — not how it was used — we cover it. Examples:
- Seam separation that isn't from impact or heat
- Defective valves
- Manufacturing defects in the drop-stitch core or laminate
- Defective stitching or hardware on accessories within their warranty window
- Pump failures within the pump warranty window
We assess every claim case-by-case. We may ask for photos, video of the issue, your order number, and a short description of what happened. Most cases resolve within 5–7 business days of receiving the info we need.
What We Don't Cover
We're a small Canadian-owned shop, not Costco. We can't replace boards damaged in ways the board wasn't designed for. The full list is in our Terms of Service, but the most common situations we see are:
- Heat and pressure damage (the big one — see below)
- Impact damage from rocks, docks, shore, the lake floor, or other watercraft
- Punctures, cuts, scrapes from sharp objects or normal wear
- Heel dents from standing in the same spot for a season
- Damage from going over your board's max payload
- Storage in damp conditions (a wet bag in a closet → delamination)
- Storage in temperatures above 32°C or below 0°C
- Modifications, third-party repairs, or use of solvents and adhesives not in the manual
- Commercial or rental use
- Whitewater, surf zones, or anything outside intended recreational use
- Cosmetic wear and UV fading over time
If your situation feels borderline, email us anyway — we'd rather take a look at photos than reject by reflex.
Math for the Nerds
The single biggest reason boards fail prematurely is heat. People rarely believe how hard sunlight hits a fully inflated board. So:
Josh sets out on a sunny 25°C day and inflates his board to 16 PSI. He leaves it on the beach in direct sunlight, and the internal air temperature rises to just 35°C — a very conservative estimate.
That 10°C increase causes a 7% pressure spike, pushing the board to 17.1 PSI.
Doesn't sound like much. Until you do the math: that small change adds over 2,700 pounds of additional force inside the board.
That's roughly the weight of a fully loaded refrigerator, or two washing machines, constantly pressing against the seams and valves.
Not good.
This is why heat-related seam failure isn't covered under warranty — it's not a manufacturing defect, it's a physics problem, and every iSUP brand we know of treats it the same way. We're including the math here so you can see why the rule exists, not just that it exists.
Burp the Board
Whenever your board is going to sit inflated and exposed to heat — a parking lot, a beach in afternoon sun, a dock, a roof rack on the highway — release a little air for 5–10 seconds. That's the burp.
Then reinflate to your target PSI before you paddle again.
A few other simple habits that will save you a board:
- Store inflated boards in the shade
- Cover with a reflective tarp or wet towel during long heat exposure
- Pull the board out of a wet bag the same day you paddle — never store wet
- Don't leave it in a hot car trunk
It takes 10 seconds — and saves you a board.
How to Make a Claim
- Email hello@dolphinkayak.ca with the subject line "Warranty Claim — [your order number]"
- Include your order number and delivery date, a short description of the issue, clear photos of the defect (and video if it's air loss or valve failure), your current address and phone number
- Wait for our reply. We aim to respond within 5 business days. Don't ship anything back yet — most issues resolve faster with a replacement part than a full return
- If approved: we'll confirm the remedy and shipping details. For claims within 6 months, we cover return shipping. After 6 months, return shipping is on you (we recommend tracked + insured)
What to Expect
| Time since delivery | What we usually do |
|---|---|
| 0 – 60 days | Refund, replacement, or repair — whichever makes sense for your case |
| 61 days – 6 months | Replacement or repair |
| 6 months – end of warranty | Repair, replacement part (preferred), or refurbished replacement |
Where it makes sense, we'll ship a replacement part — a new valve, fin, or pump component — instead of asking for the whole board back. It's faster for you and lighter on shipping for both of us.
What If My Issue Falls Outside Warranty?
If your board has a problem we can't cover under warranty (impact damage, a puncture from a sharp rock, heat damage from a hot truck), email us anyway. We may be able to:
- Sell you a replacement part at cost
- Walk you through a repair using the included repair kit
- Recommend a local shop that handles iSUP repair
We'd rather help you keep paddling than lose a customer over a $40 valve.
Other Paths
- Changed your mind within 30 days of delivery? That's a return, not a warranty claim. See our Returns page.
- Item arrived damaged or wrong? That's a 7-day damage claim, also on the Returns page.
- Defect showing up months or years in? You're in the right place.
The Legal Version
The full warranty terms — including all exclusions, the claim procedure, and your rights under provincial consumer protection law — live in Section 10 of our Terms of Service. If anything on this page conflicts with that section, the Terms of Service govern.
This warranty is offered in addition to your rights under applicable Canadian consumer protection law. It does not replace or limit those rights.
